Corbyn reminds me of a hostage. Considering his precarious position in relation to the PLP, where his supporters are in the minority, he has to tread carefully, given his obvious limitations, and conserve his authority and energy. There are only so many battles he can fight at the same time. And at this stage, with the Brexit meltdown ravaging the political landscape, getting into a hugely damaging, time-consuming and debilitating fight over anti-semitism, isn't a sensible idea. Corbyn's real 'stength' is that he's still leader of the party, that he's survived, almost a little more than a symbol, a vague hope that things might change. There's noting heroic, or glorious or romantic about his position. If he was a different kind of politician with different qualities, he might have been able to challenge and even overturn this absurd anti-semitism smear, but he isn't that person. I'm not even sure that person exists and if they did they'd succeed at this stage. There are limits to how many battles one can fight at the same time. The harsh and miserable reality for the left, is, that, for now, Corbyn's survival is the closest they come to victory. After the election, when who knows what the landscape will look like, maybe things will change, or will Corbyn still remain the hostage?
