I don't think judges like cyclists. Actually I think the majority of the driving population hate cyclists. Yes, that appears to be the case and it is really not helped by the dreadful policies regarding cyclists at local and national level (perhaps becuase many politicians are drivers!). No investments in proper cycle lanes, severe restrictions in parks, on trains etc.) The attitude to cyclists is incredibly backward and could hardly be more different from e.g. the Netherlands. See http://www.aviewfromthecyclepath.com/ This case really does seem outrageous -- how can you avoid hitting someone who steps out right in front of you? Unless perhaps there's something we're not being told e.g. that the cyclist did have time to avoid the collision, or had faulty brakes).
