Thanks Dovetailjoint, some rationality here. About one third of the UK's food comes from Europe. Leaving without an agreement might well interfere with the free flow of food across the Chanel, that's obvious enough. In additions, there'll be duties to pay on food, which will put the price up and the falling pound will do the same.
Crashing out of the EU will cause all sorts of problems, some minor, some major, some temporary, some permanent. We just don't now, do we? Has any nation left the EU before? No, so it's uncharted waters.
The fact is, as an thoroughly integrated member of the EU for forty years, leaving the EU was never the opposite of staying - one was a workable status quo, the other an entirely unknown quantity, and for what? Some sort of macho desire for muscular sovereignty? It's like the teenager leaving home, walking out the door with no realistic plan as to what he'll do or how he'll support himself, not because things are particularly bad, but because he's immature and resents his need to comply with the family norms.
Our teenager may thrive, but he may not. That's ok for one teenager, his failure is only really of consequence for himself, but for a nation of 60 million people to risk their future in the same way? Come on. There was nothing so desperately wrong with the UK being in the EU that requires this childish churlishness.
