"If your argument is to remove legitimacy to the democratic vote surreptitiously then I don't agree." My argument is to ask why is it possible for supporters of the People's Vote Again movement to say that there are now all those 16 year olds who are able to vote this time around so that Today the majority may want to remain - and not say why don't we ensure all the non-voters last time vote this time to remove any shadow of doubt that the majority of the country wanted to leave the EU by any means from no-deal to any deal. To be clear, despite what we cling to as democratic, we can never say a majority of voters is the same as the majority of those legally able to vote since we have no idea what non-voters didn't vote for. At the same time when the question being asked is so widely open to interpretation we really can never say what the majority of voters for leave actually voted for. For once May was right, Brexit only means Brexit - in other words as long as there is some scintilla of change in our relationship with Europe such that we can say we have lost our membership then that is Brexit. But is that really what the majority who voted leave thought they were voting for? IS there no case at all for asking them again on a specific deal or a series of deals - here is what we've agreed do you consent to any of these deals - this would be far more precise and we would then know at least what we all thought. Of course we could leave it up to our representatives to decide on which deal would be best ! cheers
