I've just spent way too long trying to find a source for this: 'On January 23, 2019 Greta made the prediction: “The date is January 23, 2031. The world has just ended. No humans are left on the planet once known as ‘Earth’ ”.' I think this has been fabricated by the author. Thunberg was at the Davos summit around that time, delivering her 'house on fire' speech and another one castigating delegates for arriving in private jets. Nothing about the world ending in 2031. Oddly enough a rightwing site in the US made exactly the same claim about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: 'The date…January 23, 2031. The world has just ended. No humans are left on the planet once known as “Earth”. Sounds like the opening to an interesting science fiction story right? Well, supposedly this is what awaits us in the near future according to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. - https://freedomheadlines.com/the-latest/doomsday-prediction-ocasio-cortez-warns-the-world-will-end-in-2031/ Whereas what she actually said was: 'millennials, and people and you know, Gen-Z, and all these folks that come after us, are looking up and we’re like, ‘the world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change, and your biggest issue is, your, your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?’ - https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2019/01/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-the-world-is-gonna-end-in-12-years-if-we-dont-address-climate-change/ I can't be bothered to find out if there's a connection between the two. All other searches point back to various reposts of the same article, no direct quotes. So it's a strawman misrepresentation. AOC and Thunberg were both referencing the IPCC estimate that there were 12 (now 11) years left to alter the course of the global economy or it would +lead+ to apocalyptic scenarios in the future. Thus the opening statement in the Chung piece: 'Ms. Thunberg has garnered a great deal of media attention for her passionate pleas that the world finally take heed to the very real crisis of climate change affirming that if we fail to meet the requirements laid out for us by the IPCC we will most assuredly have no planet to live on 11 years from now. Ms. Thunberg has confidently and frequently stated this in almost every interview or speech she has made since her media blitz began.' is also completely false. What Thunberg actually said in Davos was: 'Our house is on fire, I am here to say our house is on fire. According to the IPCC we are less than 12 years away from not being able to undo our mistakes. In that time unprecedented changes in all aspects of society needs to have taken place including a reduction of our co2 emissions by at least 50% and please note that those numbers do not include the aspect of equity which is absolutely necessary to make the Paris agreement work on a global scale. Nor does it include tipping points or feedback loops like the extreme powerful methane gas being released from the thawing Arctic permafrost.' - https://www.fridaysforfuture.org/greta-speeches?link_id=4&can_id=b1a113cedf5ff746f123e69a6a7b2d4b&source=email-ready-set-action-global-climate-strike-week-of-action-begins-920&email_referrer=&email_subject=ready-set-action-global-climate-strike-week-of-action-begins-920#greta_speech_jan25_2019 So the question becomes: why are these trolls wasting our time? Several answers suggest themselves, some less polite than others... jeers, I
