... I asked the rhetorical question "Is there such a thing as being too late?" which I answered "Indeed there is". However I didn't say we were "too late". We are "too late" to prevent anything under 1.5 deg C, and I believe the consequences of even this rise in temperature could be profound, but perhaps over a longer period of time, giving us that bit more time to adapt. But it's not like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. That's a simple matter of one cause, one unalterable effect. With the climate, it's a progressive problem. We have the option of dealing to it at any time, and the sooner we do so, the less severe will be the result. But science is telling us it's urgent, because every year that goes by, we are unloading the CO2 into the atmosphere at an ever increasing rate, and will be reaching the 2 deg C level ever sooner. That means, by simple mathematics, the need for ever steeper reductions over an ever decreasing amount of time. So saying this is a crisis, is not the same as panicking. Saying that time is running out is not shrill. Making this point as effectively as you can through activism is not hysterical.
