There is no serious motor vehicle technician licensing scheme in the UK at present, and I doubt that there ever will be in the forseeable future. Tom W
Ther is a scheme run by VOSA, where by meeting certain minimum criteria and 'passing' a very simple test you can become an MoT tester.
What the honest, hard working and highly skilled technicians in this country need is a very robust licensing scheme with practical and theoretical examinations that carry a very high pass mark. Perhaps spread over say 5 yrs training, or even 7yrs like veterinary surgeons. This will weed out a large percentage of the people that get us all a poor reputation.
No licensing scheme is foolproof, because fools can be very ingenious.
