I agree Dave - this scheme, that scheme - none have any teeth.
Only some draconian legislation from Government would sort the wheat from the chaff.
We (independents) could start our own overseers group and produce lots of press statements that make us look great.
Any "new scheme" has to be looked at with scepticism as they all take money from us.
With my motorcodes audit I also had an audit for RAC approval. So we now have some cheap signs to put up. Previously (before approval) we were brought the majority of breakdowns because of our competence and service. Now we are "approved" we have to give a £15 kick-back for every breakdown brought in.
At a local level we all know our customers and most of our work comes from recommendations.
Does a web based self appointed garage police bring us in more customers?
Who is going to take a day off to go to a Q&A session when most of us work 50hrs a week just to keep the doors open?
