I use the temp probe when doing diesels, but never when doing petrols !! Also, when doing the BET test, I always run the engine outside the rev range specified by the gas analyser (to prevent the program timer from starting) this gives you a good idea or not if the car is capable of passing the BET test and helps prevent wasting time having to do a full cat test just because the cat wasn't "lit" properly first time round.
