Been following this post with some interest as an MOT tester,If the car fails the BET test then, as you know you go into vehicle specific test which oil temp is measured along with any specific readings for that vehicle.What we do here is during the BET test is take vehicle out of rev range and watch readings so that we can then go into the BET test with correct readings,been told by VOSA that this is ok. Watching these readings its quite interesting to compare how long cats take to light up on different cars,there is no set pattern. when you talk about after market cats being inferiour,what makes in particular? we fit all sorts timax,bosal,euroes to name a few and have had no probs to date.
