You know that having a degree doesn't make a person smart, just educated. And not having one doesn't make a person dumb, or uneducated. I never got a degree and yet somehow managed to find work as a lead programmer for many years. The kind of statistician that thinks such data shows something useful is the kind of example of an educated but not necessarily intelligent person. It's also more than a little elitist, but I'm guessing that's the point Keith has been making. Honestly, it wears me down; it would be nice to think that we keep our ethical principles despite the political paradigms pushed on us. We shouldn't be choosing between the unwashed masses and the educated elite no matter whether it suits our political agenda or not, if for no other reason than it (should) make us feel a bit dirty.
