Not snobbery / ignorance, based on experience working in education and as parent. Archived Message

Of course it's a massive generalisation to say that non-post 16 educated people are less able to discern political BS-spin from fact than degree educated people. But it is nonetheless undeniable. Up to 16, the education most kids experience is very 'jug and mug': "I'm the teacher and I'm gonna fill you with facts, which you learn to pull out in exams." At degree level, it's incumbent on student to have initiative and read between lines, look from different angles etc. Of course I don't believe it's a hard and fast thing, but it is a norm, which has a important point to add when 70% of no post sixteen education people voted Leave, and 68% of degree people voted Remain. Those are big strong highly significant stats. There must be other reasons - eg perhaps degree students are more likely to have travelled / built links with Europe etc. Perhaps non post-16 educated people are bigger readers of pro-Brexit media - Sun / Mail / Express. But the stats are the way they are for some reason, and imo the Leave backers (Banks, Bannon etc) are a v clever lot of fekkers and planned their divisive campaign v v well: immigration - terrorism - housing crisis - NHS waiting lists - £350m to the NHS instead of EU ... all compounded together. Like I said, this carefully chosen emotive patriotism-linked political stuff and all the usual propaganda and spin pushed out through the media, doesn't necessarily slide off degree holders' backs like water off a duck's, but it is, statistically over hundreds of thousands of people, more likely Not to immediately soak in; there is more of a cynical membrane in that context. In a different context, eg buying a car / dealing with a door salesperson scammer, I think it probably swings totally the other way and degree people are too sucked in to personal politeness and just ignorant of the subject matter, and less educated are more streetwise.
