Yes, excellent pieces by McGowan. Shame he's not still around. His Sept 11 2001 piece written the next day is worth looking up, too. (And subsequent pieces)
One thing that isn't mentioned much, but McGowan touches on it briefly, is the fact of the cessation of trips to the moon. The last of the scheduled Apollo missions were cancelled due to the expense - so we're told.
I ask myself, since when did human explorers establish a route to a new territory and then just abandon it cuz, er, well, er, it's a bit pricey? Never? How come manned space exploration went backwards after Apollo? The argument 'it costs too much' is bollocks, imo.
Then there's the dodgy pics, the titchy lunar module meccano set, the extreme temperatures on the moon surface, the radiation, the astonishing success rate, the prevailing political climate of the time, the (by today's standards) primitive technology and so forth.
Plenty of exercise for sceptical minds, I reckon.
