"I ask the earlier questions about how much of society suffering is "worth" it..." -And just how are you going to avoid it? There's a covid depression with an international repression of supply and demand: it's not something that a mere national government actually has control over. What they can do concerns the hospitality sector but we've seen how Sunak's "Eat Out to Help Out" scheme helped cause the "significant" increase in new virus cases that are being dealt with now and there is serious doubt about long term work/economic security anyway so people are simply not spending: that will no doubt be the case for several years to come so many businesses in the hospitality sector will going down the tube in the longer term anyway even if vaccines solve the immediate virus threat. You clearly think its some kind of imperative worth extra deaths to keep pubs and restaurants open meantime but the real issue will be how to keep millions with a roof over their heads, heat in their homes and some actual food in the bellies in the long term during the coming recession: oh and don't forget the Brexit madness. We didn't make the rules here nor feck-up the response: the government did that. Things have changed and they aren't going back to how they were before. You might not like it but you need to reflect on that fact instead of merely bleating out the same "...indignant from Bognor" post to us over and over again.
