Mr Hardy, your explanation made for good reading, I enjoyed what you have written. I am beginning to get very concerned over the open warfare running at present between surfcasters and those who chose to fish with other methods, torpedos especially. I christened three of my grandchildren into fishing via kites, they all graduated to become surfcasters, but they have never forgotten the fun experienced fishing distances not available to surfcasters.

I didn't know Sunset kites had gone, I did several product runs for them and wrote articles after each field test. Paul's kites are still going strong but even he [Paul] has had to take on board the growing popularity of torpedos. Obviously his business acumen is pretty astute and he has done much to work at top level to protect surfcaster's rights.

I admit I don't enjoy reading posts on these boards that play one group of anglers against another. There is no right way or wrong way to fish, the only way is the legal way and to stay within the confines as set out by the minister regarding limits.

A post has arrived today of a kontiki angler setting up alongside a surfcaster, obviously a source for annoyance. But that shoe fits both sides, I have had two surfcasters set up right alongside me when fishing Ohope Beach, annoying as there wasn't another soul within site in either direction. When I pointed out I was using a kite and I was at the mercy of wind direction, I was reminded I didn't own the beach and they would fish wherever they wanted. It only took one cast and an angler had cast across my braid line, it severed his nylon as simply as a hot knife would go through butter ... they decided to move.

That full story made the Bay Fisher magazine and it really helped to promote an understanding between the parties. It was the forerunner to the monthly 'Kite and Kontiki Report' that ran for many months.

I would love to see the owner of this site set aside a small piece of this message board for long line anglers. A place for sharing information and help to promote the products sold by Tackle Tactics. It would promote understanding and allow information to be exchanged, this to tell anglers where there is foul ground so they do not lose their end gear, share bait and set up ideas. Like it of not we are all fellow anglers who leave home and set out to seek enjoyment, and that is what fishing is really all about.

Hardy, I have enjoyed our exchange, some good has come out of it and that is exactly what message boards such as this are all about.
