My mention of the longliners at Blacks Beach on Sunday was to educate the new to fishing longliners like these guys that they need to be aware of other beach users and their rights.
Top points to one of them, who I knew, to come and tell me that they were going to fish there. I was pleased that they listened and respected my patch which I secured early in the day.
Dont think that these longliners are only fishing the car parks either. They are mobile on quads and can turn up anywhere. I have seen them fishing the gap at Renaiaka, at the top end of Ocean Beach and the rivermouth at Porangahau. They dont worry me too much if they earn their own space by getting up early and being first to the spot. I do get upset when they plop down on the beach and set up ten metres away.
The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.
