I used to paddle my mates long line(cheaper than a good rod) on the surf board outside my house at papamoa and get the average of 6-8 good snap plus a few gurnad in the summer months.You actually feel like you have earned those fish when you paddle 800 meters out, towing lot's of bait....thinking about sharks.
I could never catch snapper off the beach there, only small ky.
But i was the master of the papamoa pipi reef collectors
