Metroid is particularly baffling. I see absolutely no enjoyment in that game.
You know what, put Megaman on this list. Never played any of the games and don't think that I missed out.
There was another classic game I was thinking of but I lost it now. Ninja Gaiden too but that wasn't it.
Oh. Sonic the Hedgehog. That's what I was thinking of. Never played a single Sonic game.
And you know what? They all look like shit. These are your best games?
Sonic is unbelievably bad. I tried it once or twice on an emaultor just to see what the hype is about. It's terrible. The thing moves so fast that you can't see what's coming up ahead. You have to memorize the levels. This is fun to people?
Also around this time, I tried Super Mario Bros for the first time. That's a genuinely enjoyable and well-made game. Same with the sequels. I got pretty far in Super Mario 3. Actually, I probably beat it because I know that I played the last boss with Bowser jumping into that hole.
Super Mario World...I played it but not much. Didn't really like it. Yoshi's Island...very cursory playthrough.
I had the first two Mario games on Gameboy when they were released and I liked those.
But yeah, these other "classic" Nintendo games...fuck them. Look like crap and the veneration annoys me. "Oh, it's those damned Millenials who just don't get it." No, those games are shit.
Of course there are good Nintendo games. Just not these so-called classics. Punch-Out is great. Tetris, I guess, although I only played the Gameboy version. Contra. Bubble Bobble. Pro Wrestling. The Donkey Kong ports. Loads of others. That's just off the top of my head.
