I've been reading your posts with interest as last week we decided to change insurers after nearly 15 years with Axa.
It was a big step to take as you never know what you're letting yourself in for. We have only ever had to claim once before with Axa a long time ago and from what I remember they did pay out quickly.
We've now swapped to NIG who managed to save us £2K! The Axa premiums have always seemed very good in the past but we had a visit from a broker who thought he could save us some money and he did. He was also switched on about Motor Trade policies as he has been selling them for a long time. He pointed out a couple of things we were taking for granted with regards to personal vehciles and their use on Motortrade policies that our previous broker never mentioned.
This time the saving was too much of a difference not to change this year (Axa normally price match any other quotes just to keep the business).
I checked with the broker and he says that NIG provides automatic reinstament of sums insured. With regards to paying out for customers vehicles these would be settled at market value (using Glasses guide) but for own vehicles these would be a trade prices which is usually for motor traders. However, if you do not have access to trade priced vehicles then they should settle at market value.
Also according to our broker as soon as we instructed him to issue cover, the full cover as proposed became operational and both the insurers and ourselves are legally bound by the terms. He also goes on to mention that the policy is not the contract of insurance, it just offers proof that a contract exists.
So far we have been very impressed with this guy, lets just hope that NIG live up to all the expectations. If anyone (especially in the North West) would like his number I would be happy to forward it on.
Regards
Sean.
