Driving other peoples cars for private use has been a debatable point for some years. As I understand it a lot depends if you are a limited company or not.
If you are limited company, you almost certainly would NOT be covered, as you are NOT the policy holder, the company is. Therefore any car, not the company's property, has to be to be in the care / control of the company, this would clearly not apply to private use.
If you are not limited, the owner / partners are the policy holder, therefore a car for private use, may be in your care / control, so you are much more likely to be coverd.
We are a partnership and I have written confirmation that we the partners, are covered, this does NOT extend to named drivers e.g. my wife. The insurance company (royal & sun) did add that they would not expect us to do this on a regular basis, as it is not the intended use of the policy.
I would suggest ALL TRADERS get written clarification from there insurers on this point.
