" More seriously, the (more) stringent lockdowns in France and Spain are doing wonders for their death rates relative to the UK -- what do you think? Should we copy them?" I commented a week or so ago on how it could be lifted: https://members5.boardhost.com/xxxxx/msg/1586622482.html In effect to change from a horizontal preventative approach to a vertical one you would have to maintain Purdah for the over fifties and support all above that age group...and work out if the health service had the capacity to treat the numbers of youngest at risk group likely to hit the wards: the forty to fifty year olds. All of course dependent on having proper protection equipment for front line staff: not only in the NHS but for care workers, nursing homes and teachers likewise. Without them being protected not only will the infrastructure fall apart through illness but they are effectively vectors for transmission. And on PPE as we have seen, the government has repeatedly prioritised healthcare cuts and Brexit delusions over any kind of rational procurement plan. - What should be done is what should have and could have been done from the very beginning...it's just become an awful lot harder now, and the chances of the UK gov suddenly becoming competent and effective enough to carry out such a plan seems a lot less likely.
