Just a quick note Ian. Way back I practiced meditation for about 2 odd years. All was well and I experienced definitive clarity of thought as a result. Near the end of that period, I noted that I gradually became more 'robotic' as in emotionless and logical, which on the surface sounds ideal - but I didn't like it Like I said, it was a long time ago. Definitely worth putting one's toes into that from my perspective, although psychotic bits are worrying, for some individuals (as in your quoted articles). There are other practices I tried, as in tantric exercises, which are perhaps more powerful than mantra type yoga, and thus more dangerous, for a short spell. I'd be more careful with these. It provided me with an insight or two regarding hindu/buddhist and other meditation practices - regarding the human condition etc.
