Hi all. Got a customer with a very tidy Saxo with 39000 miles under its belt. Failed emission test as follows: Fast idle 0.46% CO and HC's at 84ppm. Natural idle just in at 0.4% and 100ppm. Customer was advised to fit 02 sensor (after market NTK) and then after market cat at £113 from Wilco (I Know our feelings on this!) Don't know make of cat yet. These did improve the initial readings marginally. ECU is secondhand item tested and virginised by a well known company to cure a misfire. My AD disc doesn't carry much info on this vehicle but my tests with ACR4 show the following:
Injection duration 2.6ms fast idle and 3.5ms at normal idle. CTS tested fine. MAP 314 mb at natural idle and 241 fast idle. (Donor MAP from known good vehicle shows same results and no change in emmissions.) Vacuum good at both normal and fast idle at 21"hg Not done pressure test yet. Not come across any of these with fuel pressure problems - yet.
Vehicle has just been serviced with oil, plugs and filters. Breathing slightly but disconnecting breather pipes make no difference to emissions. NTK 02 sensor switching like a good un and happy with its performance.
Might be worth doing a bit of "Italian tuning" before I advise her to bite the bullet and get proper cat. Thought I'd let you guys have your usual educated input first.
