I thought CO was partially burnt fuel and HC was unburnt fuel so a slight misfire would cause a higher CO reading and could leave excess oxygen within the exhaust gas make-up. A dead cylinder (no spark) may not have any affect to the gas readings as injection is often stopped (this is how i thought it worked) so this is why i thought a slight misfire could cause a slightly higher CO gas reading.
