Corbyn is in a difficult position. He's been under seige before he was even elected leader of the Labour Party. He wasn't the choice of the MPs or the party establishment, but 'only' the ordinary members. So, he has the support of the group that has, in reality, the least power in the party and that's before we even get to the public at large. Clearly, he's not really the ideal leader for the left at a time like this and faced with so many powerful enemies within his own party, and that's before one factors in the press and the Tories and the Establishment, who appear to think he's Lenin! But there's no real alternative to Corbyn, is there? Name so bright, strong and charismatic leader on the left waiting in the wings to step into his shoes? I can't think of anyone. I think he's doing his best, only, and this isn't meant as a personal criticism, his best clearly isn't good enough. The next election is gonna be make or break for him and what he's come to stand for. It's hard when the PLP is so far to the right of the party activists and Labour voters. The world isn't fair, full stop. The treatment of Corbyn isn't fair, get used to it. The big question is, after Corbyn, what? Can the Blairites really take over the party again when the activists and the public don't support them? Is Corbyn little more than a last gasp, nostaligic, indian summer for Labour and social democracy, actually signifying very little? It doesn't look like the parliamentary route is working anymore, for a variety of reasons. Perhaps next time it'll be a 'revolution'?
