I wasn't saying I disagreed with the conclusion, just that there are many ways of interpreting data, and when we don't know all the variables we can be caught out by assumptions even when we are trying to interpret the data honestly (and in statistical analysis many do not). I provided one non real world example (I thought I made it clear it was a thought experiment) to illustrate that. I'm not dumb enough to think that is the case here! Just saying we shouldn't get lazy by saying virus started, escalated and then we locked down, now virus exponential upward trend is slowing therefore must be lockdown (because it is the only thing *we* did). I hope you see my point now.
