better, doing something like this. And it was in ground where I planted other trees previously - mostly willow sticks just broken from the parent tree and stuck into damp ground - as simple as that. Lot's of these earlier-planted willows are now making good young trees, in land which was previously upheaved by clay quarrying, but which is now neglected. Young woodland coming back there now - by stealth!
