    Hi Darren,

Excellent post and information as usual, this post just goes to show how important it is for a "codereader" to give correct code deffinitions, esp manufacturer specific codes.

Many diagnostic tools today (not just EOBD/OBD2) are too generic, as most will only give the generic code descriptions. How many times have you read lambda sensor codes in diesels? And confusion between TPS and APPS is a common one.

Its also important for the person operationg the tool to understand what the code/deffinition is telling them and to have the ability/equipment to actually test and prove the fault (where possible)

The majority of my work is trade and a few of my "clients" have a habit of reading a code, fitting what it says on the screen and then sending it to me because the light is still on or has come back on. In a lot of cases the perfectly good part they have replaced and binned has been changed for either the wrong part or an inferior quality part that is not up to the job, so I have to put right first what they have done wrong, then find the real cause of the fault!!!

    Mike
