Hi Dave I'm glad you found the answer to fix this car. You always give good technical post's and put in a lot of effort that puts most of the members of UKAT to shame. But I'm sorry to say i will have to disagree with your conclusion that the cylinder head skimming had effected the valve timing. TDC is TDC , the cylinder head height cannot alter this. If you use a DTI gauge to find TDC and the timing mark on the crank gear does not line up correct then , there must be something wrong with the gear or the location of the gear onto the crank shaft. So if crank gear was out buy a few degree's for what ever reason, and somebody used this as the TDC referance when cambelt was re-fitted then the camshafts would also be out of position. The camshafts are timed to the crankshaft. So if you now found TDC with a DTI gauge the camshaft timing has to be out of alignment This fault sound's like the classic problem that effects X12SZ X14XE and X16XE , that being wear in the crank gear location key and wear in the crankshaft woodruff slot. if this makes no sense then please explain how the cylinder head height can alter TDC , becuase i cannot see the link????????????
