The Camshaft alignment is set before the belt goes on.<<< I dissagree, Even if the shafts are locked in place before fitting belt and tensioning, once the pins are removed the tension will even itself out along the belt runs. (Again this a reason for having no keys) I agree with the reasons you give for having none keyed shafts but I would like to add "greater accuracy when setting cam timing" eg you won't end up half a tooth out due to external factors like manufacturing tolerances in belt or stretched belts, excessively skimmed cylinder heads  etc. Mike |
