I think we should oppose all forms of what bell hooks calls 'domination'. Or oppression.
I dont think there can be change without solidarity among different groups that have been historically-oppressed/dominated. Thats where i start. With that idea.
Maybe you start from a different place?
To bring those groups together, I (and others)believe we need to listen to those groups who have been historically oppressed and dominated.
And then I think we need to build solidarity among those groups. Intersectionality attempts to do that.
And I agree its not really 'new', though i think the approach continues to evolve.
In other words, I dont think it is good strategy to tell a black woman who has experienced racism and sexism all her life, that "race issues and gender issues are just 'identity politix distractions' -- the problem is really about class..."
I dont think that works. It ignores THEIR reality. It fails to LISTEN. Its an arrogant approach, imho. I could go on.
