"...Sorry you don't feel you can trust me. I have no control over what you think of me. I don't think of people here in terms of 'trust'. I rate them only by the words they write." I suppose we differ there. I pay attention to 'the words they write' too -- and those words lead me to various levels of Trust. I trust Walter completely, for example. You couldn't find two posting-styles more different than Walter and me, but I trust him completely. I've disagreed with him vigorously over Assad, but we kept it cordial the whole time. "...[you]think the intersectional approach is a useful tool and a cleverly-devised one..." Well thats interesting. Because it seems to me you are constantly trashing it in subtle ways. That's how you come across to me. Perhaps i am wrong, but I just dont ever remember you saying it was useful before. Ever. Tortoise will not like this. Margo saying intersectional approaches are 'useful' and 'clever'. "It's still also poorly understood (I still have more to learn) which again makes it a pity that some want to shut down broad discussion around it. ...I think it's a bad approach to police debate around this theory" I dont think its poorly understood at all, myself. In many ways I think there is 'less' to it than many proponents and detractors think. Its not real complicated -- all it is (to me) is an attempt to address Race, Class, Gender issues. Thats it. It, of course, also recognizes the 'tapestry' model of interconnections among the three main spheres of oppression. The cross-currents. The complexity. But, I mean, any 'smart person' is gonna see the complexity of different forms of domination. And of course there is no one, agreed-upon approach to HOW one goes about teaching/learning/sharing an 'intersectional' approach. There are as many practical-approaches as there are activist-leaders and teachers. My own approach relies on Friere's ideas a lot. But thats just me. Policing debate -- I dont agree about policing. I think there should be MORE policing of debate. Not less. On this board there is virtually NONE. What i mean is ad-hom attacks should not be tolerated. They are not 'debate'. They kill debate. And poison boards. This board is the ultimate Lord of the Flies Board. Ad Hom attacks are not only allowed here, they are cheered on. Enabled. Encouraged. Heck the Admin here even scolds the ones BEING attacked. And other than Walter, me, and Twirlip, no-one ever speaks out about it. Ah well. So be it. I have no doubt you see it totally differently. Post something about South African Feminism. I'd love to know something about it. I have no doubt the SYSTEM in South Africa tries to tame, shape, and de-claw feminism in South Africa. Yes? I'm multi-tasking as usual. I'm not gonna proof-read this post. I may be ranting incoherently. I'm not sure. w v
