I'm not against the idea or practice of democracy, per se. I think that socialism and christianity have many positive aspects, as do liberalism and even capitalism, which released powers that changed the world, whether this was for the better seen in a longer term perspective, is debatable. We turned into the masters of nature, but how long will that last? Anyway, looking at human behaviour from the perspective of socical psychology, anthropology and sociology; indicates that much of our behaviour is... 'problematic.' We can aspire to socialism and democracy, but in cold, harsh, practice, things seem rather different. Underneath the veneer of civilisation there are hidden depths that need to be examined and controled. More basic and primitive patterns of behaviour and urges, that are linked to our 'nature' and where we came from as a species. The creation of a socialist civilisation doesn't appear to be part of our 'nature', otherwise it would have already been successfully introduced. I think it's too easy to blame everything on capitalism as being the root of all evil. I think the fault may lie within us to a greater degree than we like or want to believe.
