| "Tribal" is a monolithic C19th term to diminish non-Europeans by denigrating their social structures. You can get away with "clan" because it's a picturesque term for quaint foreigners in North Britain but if you use it to describe religious minorities it's antisemitic. Odd that an analogue like "tribal" isn't as taboo. |
