Interest in prisons? Then you'll be disappointed! ;-) No, Derek said: "All that said, if we're admitting we've given up on real change, then your hope for even concessionary tidbits is fair enough. To which I replied: "No, Derek, I certainly don't think it the best option, but, depressing as it might be, history would suggest that we are unlikely to get out of 'prison' in my lifetime, nor, probably, the way things are going, my children's and so rather than watch that yard and their time in it shrink, if there is a way I can get an extra hour or so for them in a slightly larger, slightly sunnier yard, I will. Of course, this presupposes that the Governor will keep his promises. The 'prison' is solid, has been built to last, is well policed, well controlled and there are a good many petty (I originally said 'pretty' but meant petty) distractions and divisions within, but its chipped walls will crumble over time. Like I said, I'm under no illusions." The metaphor was about us getting it up the arse whatever and that the only thing we can get any control over was how much. It was worded a little less savoury, a little more purple than that, but you get the idea. |
