And an anticlimax it was. When labour tried to keep out new members so corbyn wouldn't be voted into leadership, that seemed positive. When corbyn responded post labour election by throwing everyone under the bus to capitulate to power I think it simply took the wind out of all that group effort enthusiasm. Some spent the next years doing the Obama routine (wait for it, his revolution is coming), but I think most just gave up at that point, realising it was a pointless charade. People near to power cling to it. It is and always has been that way. Plenty written on the subject about middle class facilitators; they're close enough to power to hope for a taste and principles go out the window at that point. Whether it's personal corruption or simply the idea that by jumping through hoops they have a chance to change things from within, the end result is the same; you still end up looking like a circus act.
The only solution is maintaining principles no matter the result because at least you can look yourself in the mirror.
