We were an AA approved garage before they sold out to Halfords. At that time we looked around for some sort of replacement standards scheme that had a decent profile and were not able to find anything. My opinion is this sort of thing was a long time coming and fills the vacuum left by trade associations, the TS and governments etc not being able to agree on anything for years now.

I agree with Peter, the feedback concept is excellent, if people are not happy with the service we provide they can let others know it.
A bit like Ebay`s feedback scheme, I have always checked the feedback of Ebayers and that has gone a long way in my decision to purchase from them and I think motorists feel the same about this scheme. The cards are returned each month and you area able to see the relevant areas that need tweaking to maintain the quality of service.
I too had a problem with the rules stating we "always" had to use the product and supply the customer with GGS`s tick sheet (ours is more comprehensive and is an integral part of our records system and may be to a manufacturers spec for warranty purposes)so we just copy the info onto the GGS`s sheet and give them that too, takes very little time, as for the additives they are included in our pricing and the customer is asked if they want it used,if they do not then the cost price is refunded to them. The rep was happy with this as was the scheme administrator.
Forte took the initiative and are doing a very good job of it. They offer a website creation service, the ability to include images of your workshop on the GGS site as well as a good marketing strategy (just type good garage into Google and it is the top of the hit list) including comprehensive advertising on radio, local freebie papers and two nationals. As for cost? The RMI(of which we are also members) cost a lot more per year in subs and are far less effective than GGS!
My advice to anyone thinking of joining is do it now before they limit the numbers.
