The vote was for the people of the U.K. Labour should honour it as the tories have not, if only to show they respect the will of the people, not just paid party members. That's how real democracy would work. I'd expect an authoritarian party to dismiss it, but if labour is not such a party, and wants the people to understand they respect the views of the people (they work for us, not the other way around), then the vote by the collective (all constituents, not just those that vote labour), then it would be unquestioningly honoured. A fair leadership would say, we can't ignore the majority. That is not what they are promising, what they are promising is another referendum that hopefully goes a dofferent direction. The referendum paves the way for if Scotland ever manages another independence referendum, to be simply ignored til the electorate votes correctly (as it did last time).
In matters of democracy, as soon as they're given the right to pick and choose which votes they need to listen to, the pretence falls quickly. If we only stand up for it where we agree, we stand to lose any say at all.
It would seem that my hopes however have been dashed already; the middle classes want to remain in the uk at the expense of a popular vote being ignored. The alternative (Johnson and us big business partnership) is the only other offer to the rest of the U.K. On the table. We've been told; accept eu membership or accept American influence at every level.,we should be fighting for and insisting on better than that! But collectively we've sucked it all up, most seem to believe they are the only two real options available . Crazy stuff.. Interesting times, but not good times. Many have forgotten the fundamentals of left thinking I would say in their quest to win or be right.,
