Very nice research Ken, and I take back my claim re proportion of the UK railway ownership. I made an assumption that was wrong. I checked some of the franchises and the ownership here: https://fullfact.org/bbcqt/2018/Jan/25 It goes into more detail about the entities you listed. Btw. your source for the list? With reference to my 'shareholder' remark, this is the revealing statement from a German Transport Ministry spokesperson recently admitted to such a strategy in reference to its state-owned company Deutsche Bahn: “We’re skimming profit from the entire Deutsche Bahn and ensuring that it is anchored in our budget – that way we can make sure it is invested in the rail network here in Germany.” Ref: http://actionforrail.org/three-quarters-of-uk-rail-owned-by-foreign-states-research-reveals/ e.g. they are in it for profit and re-investment of this profit back into Germany (on their railways). Nice, eh? They probably could not find the buyer for Scottish Water, unless you have some facts to the contrary (was it stopped by somebody?). I note Scottish Power went under the hammer etc. The basic point I was making is that all the utilities need to be nationalised, no ifs or buts, and our current relationship with the EU does not allow us to do that. Hence remain in the CU only. As to the cringeworthy oneliners/sayings/shouts, I could add a list as long as your arm. Not worth it. I am just a spectator in your joust : ).
