The fact that we have a stupid electoral system is a separate issue -- virtually all democracies, with PR or otherwise, have elections 4-5 years. Why do you think that is? No time limit -- seems nonsensical to me. Why should a vote in 2016 carry the same weight say 20 years hence? The longer in the past, the less relevant it becomes for precisely the reasons we vote periodically in elections. .. can be negated by doing nothing. Sure, but if the people feel strongly about it, they can vote the government out at the next election. Stupidly, many people will vote Tory to try to get Brexit done when they failed for 4 years!
