I did answer that question; it is the responsibility of the various ministers to forge deals etc. As you pointed out, the fault on all that lay both with the tories and the opposition, for looking for deals primarily with Europe that would keep things business as usual. No honest attempts to use the opportunity to do things differently, or more positively, and anything suggested was forcibly shelved because both sides wanted their cake to eat it. It has been a proper case of spoilt children fighting over their bat and ball. And it's important to remember that both sides are culpable; a dereliction of duty after the fact to prove yet again that leadership here is a bit of a joke. No wonder the average voter is disillusioned by the whole facade.
Switch that (labour in charge and tories as opposition ) and we will end up with the same issue. Labour will try to push deals, the tories will vote against them, and that's even before Europe is involved. You would need a large majority to make any difference, and if labour had one, they would be pushing for a second referendum rather than a sensible approach to disentangling themselves from Europe. So we've been let down. The one job of MPs and ministers is to do the actual organising and facilitating (of the will of the people). If they were in real employment they'd be fired, all of them.
Yes, the U.K. Should have left and then worked through the problems quickly. More late nights, less extended holidays, some thing like the real work everyone else must do to survive. Instead we got the overall sense that it was just too hard. Well then, don't be a bloody mp if it's too much responsibility! Businesses are negotiating deals every day and often from scratch. Hard work, diplomacy, sacrifice are all part and parcel of that. We hold these people to lower standards than we hold employees in companies, which is ridiculous.
I explained months back about border crossings; that was another scare tactic used to predict chaos. Shipping manifests are processed prior to actual shipping, and the predicted chaos doesn't happen in other places with less free borders, nor did it happen before the eu was installed. All that would be required to make a smooth transition would be some organisation. If it didn't happen that way it would be to prove a childish point, not because the facilities are not in place to guarantee a smooth operation.
Despite having only been in the eu for 30 years, many seem to believe that the world didn't start moving till 1993 regarding European nations. It simply isn't true. And as I said, 195 countries are all trading with other countries without a super government managing those transactions. If some things garner a worse trade deal than through Europe, you change tack. It requires responsible, intelligent and skilled people on the job, however. I don't see any in the tories, but I don't see them in labour (or any other party) either. We've been let down. And I believe we will be let down (or dismissed entirely) after the next election, by tories because they will see a mandate to do what they please, or by labour because they will be seeking the easy capitalist solution (status quo support) . I'd say 90% of all MPs would rather not have their time taken up with real organising, diplomacy, etc. Some want to see it stay the same because they're happy with the current status quo, others perhaps because they might have to work harder .
