A lot of talk about "DPF's not being fit for purpose"....... Says Who?

Diesel remapping is big business and probably generates millions for the motor trade, I have no qualms about that. You only have to Google "Diesel Remapping" and hundreds of sites come up. Nothing wrong with extra power or torque if you spend most days driving some distance

This is where the "Not fit for purpose" falls down. Drivers will have the diesel re-map done and probably told at the time that if they have the DPF removed and a straight pipe fitted they can get an extra 20% power, this is to tempting to turn down (I wouldn't )and at the time no one was fully informed of the future consequences. The DPF they had was probably working 100% efficiently

Many are removed probably because they are blocked, choked etc and very expensive to replace so have the guts knocked out and remapped, this is probably down to poor maintenance or driving style, as mentioned many members have customers that have done over 100,000 miles with no problem. Plus many manufacturers stipulate that a DPF has to be changed around 80,000 anyway (and never are)

When the new regulations come into force in February the tens of thousands that have had straight through pipes fitted are probably going to be the first to fail, to catch the ones that have had the guts knocked out will probably get lucky for a few years until new emission equipment is introduced to test the latest euro 5 and 6 vehicles, so could be 3 to 4 years before they are finally all caught out, many will have changed hands by then to unsuspecting buyers

I think this debate is more about those that have now been made aware of the new regulations and legal implications, are you still going to carry on removing them to to get that extra bit of power? What will you tell your customers when they return in February with a failure........"JUST USE IT OFF ROAD SIR"
