TUV Nord have tested three current GDI engines for particulate emissions and have said that they emit approx ten times the amount of Particulates that a modern diesel (when fitted with a working DPF) does. For them to become as clean as diesels they will require a GPF to be fitted (gasoline particulate filter). Reason it has not happened already is that petrol emission legislation is not as tight as diesel (Euro 5 and 6), but will change in the near future.
So the next big buzzword will be GPF as well as DPF.
Considering the arse we have made in policing DPF the policing of GPF will be worth following--providing we are not all dead through particulate poisoning beforehand.--we are all Doomed!
