Happy New Year to everyone
Before Christmas I emailed my broker about this topic and he forwarded it onto the insurance company underwriter (one of the largest in the UK)
They came back to me a few days ago with a long email, most of it in insurance company jargon, but the basic details were there. They will be getting back to me in the new year with more info
From what I understand the insurance companies are not really up to speed with the re-mapping thing yet. When garages tell their broker that they carryout re-maps (occasionally )the insurance companies assume that it's a "Fuel Saving / Economy" re-map, they are not aware that this can also seriously enhance the vehicles performance as well (not disclosed by the garage)
The insurance companies are also not aware that DPF's are being removed and that vehicles will fail an MOT in February. As your policy stands at the moment if your customer comes back to you to complain as it has failed the MOT then you may be able to claim the repair back on your insurance as it comes under the "poor workmanship" clause (you have done a repair that is substandard and caused the vehicle to fail an MOT)
All a grey area at the moment, but I would expect once the insurance companies are up to speed garages could expect a big hike in premiums if you are involved in re-mapping for performance
