While I agree that the motor repair industry is crying out for regulation (similar to CORGI for plumbers; FENCA for builders, etc) I'm afraid that I too have my doubts:
It seems to me that it's another excuse to charge more money for not very much. The whole set-up seems to be geared towards giving customers (genuine or not) a big stick with which to beat us. If an independant garage disagrees with a customer's claim and gives their reasons, will the representative of this organisation even understand the explanation? With the additional fees involved it would be in their interests NOT to understand so the complaint goes to the next level.
Why can't this new organisation affilliate with the MVRA or even the Guild of Master Craftsmen and use a code of practice already in existance? I feel that this is yet another department staffed by people with, at best, a vague idea of the real world of motor vehicle repairs.
I continue to wach with interest.
