I really wanted to read your item so I cut and pasted it in to notepad and added a few paragraph spaces.

What you say just about covers it all I think and you are obviously FAR too educated and articulate to be a mechanic (well, according to popular perception!)

I can't see myself wanting to lay bricks all day long and there is more to life than money (although it helps a bit).

I have convinced myself that I turned down a potentially lucrative career in I.T. because I was fed-up with the computer industry.

I am almost in the same business now, except that the money is nowhere near as good and I can actually look like an oily rag at times!
